OUR LIBRARY

Welcome to our school library

Welcome to the library and to our program of information literacy. We believe that every student should have the skills necessary to navigate in today's information-rich society. Determining information needs, recognizing and selecting appropriate resources - whether print or online and managing the information are fundamental skills needed for successful academic research.

Library Hours

8:30 am to 3:30 pm

Lending Policies

  • Borrowing Period: one school cycle
  • Number of sign outs: two books may be borrowed at time
  • Renewals:  materials can be renewed at least once, as long as no one else has the book on hold
  • Overdues:  two books are allowed to be out per cycle. If one book is overdue, another can still be borrowed until one book is overdue more than two cycles. At that point no materials can be borrowed until overdue items are paid for (if lost) or returned.
  • Lost Books: Lost items are communicated through a letter to parents. No materials can be borrowed until lost items are paid for or found. Lost item fine will be refunded if the item is found and returned at a later date.

Program Description

Students attend library classes where they are allowed to sign out books and take them home to read. Parents are encouraged to share reading time with their children and to remind them to return books promptly. Lost or damaged books will result in a replacement charge being assessed. Classes will also have the opportunity to participate in inquiry-based learning with the teacher-librarian.

Throughout the school year, the classroom teachers and the teacher-librarian collaborate in planning, teaching and assessing units from the curriculum through the inquiry-based learning (IBL) process. This process helps to improve the students’ information literacy skills, technology skills, and reading and writing of non-fiction.
