OUR LIBRARY

Welcome to our school library

Welcome to the library and to our program of information literacy. We believe that every student should have the skills necessary to navigate in today's information-rich society. Determining information needs, recognizing and selecting appropriate resources - whether print or online and managing the information are fundamental skills needed for successful academic research.

Program Description

The library is an important resource for the school. The regular program includes one literacy period for each class per cycle. Students are also taught information literacy skills and are challenged to improve their reading selections. Once or twice a year, the classroom teachers and the teacher-librarian collaborate in planning, teaching and assessing units from the curriculum through the resource-based learning (RBL) process. This process helps to improve the students’ information literacy skills, technology skills, and reading and writing of non-fiction.

The library is the hub of our busy school.  The regular program includes one literacy period for each class per cycle.  Classroom teachers and the teacher librarian collaborate on grade level topics according to the cirriculum.  Students are taught how to use technology in various ways to gather information and present their learning.
